bellow is a message from Andrew describing the events that lead to Ladell's death and some additional thoughts on how we can keep the family in prayer.
I'm extremely sad to tell you that Rochelle's brother died last night. He and his wife and their niece were coming home from a ski weekend in Whitefish Montana when they hit a stretch of really bad weather through the middle of one of the mountain passes. They were on their way up the pass through a very narrow and treacherous section when a semi with an empty trailer coming at them in the opposite lane down the pass jack knifed. Ladell swerved out of the way but the trailer caught his side and he was killed instantly. Ladell knew that road like no one else and had driven it hundreds of times but there was nothing he could do. His actions saved his wife, their 12 week old unborn child, and their niece. This was a sudden and tragic loss for their family, who were are very very close, and for me as well as he was one of my best friends for years before Rochelle and I even started dating.
Rochelle and I are heading out Thursday morning to Alberta and at this point we're not sure when we are coming back, but we would appreciate your prayers as we walk through this. Eli lost an amazing uncle and we are sure that God will use him to bring joy to our faces through this next week.

Heather,
My name is Jason and I just recently shared a week of skiing in interior BC a few weeks ago with Ladell and 6 other good friends. Most of us met Ladell for the first time, but with one week of full interaction and skiing together, and the amazing person he is, we became good friends and this news has really hit home and hit hard. We were so looking forward to our next trip together next year. Above all else, our prayers and thoughts are with Ladell's wife, family and other close friends. He was an amazing person who will be dearly missed.
Thank you for this post

I also was with Ladell the first week of Feb. skiing. I consider myself lucky to have met him.
in the short time we were on this trip together he had an effect on me. I found myself looking forward to next year when I would get the opportunity to get to know him better. The things that struck me most about him were;
-his great patients(while skiing with less experienced)
-the genuine happiness and excitement to see others push their boundaries and over come fears(skiing)
-the biggest thing that struck me was the way he talked about his wife and the respect he had for her, it really was something special.
I can not imagine the sadness the people closest to him are feeling, as I knew him for a week and am finding myself struggling with emotions.
I have found myself telling people today about my friend who was one of those people you rarely meet, that have that quality that makes you want to know them.....
......he will be missed.

Thank you so much for your loving comments about Ladell. He was an incredible man and just the fact that he made an impact on your lives attests to how much he will be missed. Our families are struck with grief at this terrible tragedy but hearing your praise and appreciation for Ladell mean the world to us.
Thank you so much for your kind words and love for Ladell. He loved the Lord and God has taken him to be with Him and as much as we don’t understand why we trust in God and His authority.

Bless your family at this time of loss, from what i have heard he was a great man. I only met him a few times at church, but my wife worked with stan doing some tile work and has known him for some time. May the days ahead bring you joy and memories of ladell. Bless you all.
On behalf of my old ski team and I-
I would like to send my extended love to all of the Friesen's. His wife and their child continue to be in our thoughts and will be forever.
Ladell was our ski coach for many years.
I first met Ladell in Whitefish thru a family friend. I then a few years later came back to ski in Alberta and joined up with him and his team at West Castle.
He helped us share so many laughs and great memories. One us girls on the team will never forget was when he took us to Alberta Winter Games and snuck us out to go see a movie.. We dragged him to see the Britney Spears movie, mainly because we knew we could! He was just that kind of guy, always laughing, kind hearted and caring.
Ladell, you were nothing short of a mentor to us. We love you always and thank you for all that you gave to us in your short life.
We hope that your family can find comfort in the many great memories you have left them.
Love-
Daryl Burton and The Wild West Freestyle Team.
