Crazy Late

Okay, so its after midnight...crazy late for me considering I have to be up in 5 hours but I had to talk about this while it was still on my mind. I need to get to bed so I will make this quick. I just finished watching the most in lightning episode of Oprah. She had Jay Leno on and they had a really eye opening conversation about what happened.

I had no idea! In 2004 NBC came to Leno and said in 5 years were pretty sure your numbers will have failed and we're getting pressure from Conan's team so in 5 years your basically fired. So Jay dealt with it, and he remained number #1 during the entire time and said he was retiring when really he didn't want to leave. SO they give Conan the Tonight Show and they really don't want to lose Jay since he is #1 so they make him prime time. Jay agrees because he wants to keep his staff happy and employed. It doesn't work....Jay is up against prime time dramas and he can't compete...Get this..His numbers go down by 25%......everyone is like oh my goodness! You are doing horrible! No one is paying attention to Conan, not even Jay...Conan's numbers for the tonight show spot have gone down almost 50%! SO Jay Leno's show gets cancelled and he thinks its all over...THAN they say no...we need you because Conan's show is going to get cancelled because he can't cut it.

They offer Jay 30 minutes at 11:35pm to do a Jay Leno show and Conan can go at 12 am and do the Tonight Show...Jay says Ok..he can do this, see what Conan thinks....Conan says No...and there we have it...He says no, he gets 40 sumodd million bucks and yes it's disappointing for him. If he would have had a better transition his rating would have been up, If Jay wasn't stealing all the attention in the media people would have watched...If he would have had better publicity and P.R...that would have helped. The fact is Jay was number #1 when they forced him to leave, which is probably why it never worked out. He is the best and you can't replace the best when it's not the right time.

So after that hour of Oprah I tuned in online to watch an hour with the audience after the show and got more of scoop on the situation. People still think Conan is the victim, which I don't get. NBC is the one who messed everything up. If you got fired twice from the best job you ever had that you loved and dreamed of having, wouldn't you take it back? You would. That is what Jay Leno did...I think he did what any one of us would have and I admire him still...I think he's a stand up guy with great character and he got mistreated by NBC and is taking the blame for a situation he had no control over.

Ahhh.....I'm glad I got that off my chest! Okay, Now it is time for bed!
