Love Is.....On my Brain.

So I am sitting here ..listening to music playing from my iPod, Doing what I usually am this time of night-thinking. It seems like there is just so many darn things to think about these days.

The music I am listening to is so romantic..it's hard not to reflect on anything else but love. I have a lot of ideas and thoughts on the topic but when it comes to love it's best to take advice from The One who designed it, and happens to know everything about it- Jesus.

I have been wanting to understand about what love is supposed to feel like..I know that butterfly feeling you get when you first fall in love with someone but how is it supposed to feel after years have past and the unknown is not such a mystery anymore. I don't know where I picked up the idea that love = gushy, butterfly's, desire, longing, recklessness, complete adoration, affectionate well.. everything!..
If you stop feelings those things..and love becomes a duty does that mean it's not genuine love anymore?

What is love really? Is it the gushy feelings or is it having your Independence, not needing someone else but choosing them. I am trying to look to the bible for answers and I know that Love is patient, love is kind ...(that old verse!)...It's a noble explanation and sounds beautiful...I think what I am learning about love is if you want what the bible says true love is..you first have to be it yourself..that's what I think is the answer to understanding Love. This verse bellow shows us what Love is..looking at it again now I am reminded that this is the type of Love God wants me to give to others..instead of looking outwardly to receive it..I need to first make sure I am giving it and living it like the bible shows us..

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

New International Version (NIV)
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

I've asked myself those questions so many times. People seem to have their own opinions and definitions of love, but I think starting with the source...the one who created us...is the key. At least in my experience that's been the right path to take.
