I will never forget last night; I think even when I turn 80 I will remember The Toronto U2 360 July 11, 2011 Tour.
It’s the day after and I am basking in the sun sitting on my deck listening to U2 on my iPod. Strong gusts of winds are breezing through my hair and I am closing my eyes picturing last night. It was a beautiful thing. We made incredible friends with U2 fans from all over the world while waiting from 4am in the morning in the GA line up. We were numbers 119,120,121,122 and 123. These friends and I ran down to the inner circle around 5-5:30 and got positioned inner circle front row against the rails and second row just behind. All day I had been asking them to tell me what it was like …traveling the world, always watching the show from the front rails, being on stage with Bono as 2 of these new friends had been brought on stage numerous times as they explained the band wants a good show and pull up trust worthy fans. Every time I asked they would tell me they couldn’t talk about it, words could not describe the experience and now I know what they mean.
2 years ago on the same tour Kyle and I had a great experience at the back of the inner circle thinking the view of the band would be better because we wouldn’t have to look up but yesterday we decided to take our new friends advice and go up to the very front and wow, were we ever glad we did.
My tears started with “Walk On” and this song for me is a proclamation to my life’s struggles and moving forward in spite of all diversity and when Edge’s guitar strings led us into “Streets with No Name” the tears began to stream. It was like a giant worship service, you could sense Bono’s Passion and I can’t tell you with confidence that he is a believer in God but watching him lead us into what I would consider worship during this song was unreal. He was lifting his hands praising and I was praising God and I looked at my new friends and new exactly what they were talking about early in the day when they were saying you can’t describe or talk about what goes on, it’s unexplainable and it truly is. I have never in my life been a part of something so incredible before.
Some highlights of the night for me were some new friends and I holding up my big red Magnificent banner that I had made and Bono actually acknowledging it with delight and Larry and the Edge with their big smiles, watching us and taking it all in. What really amazed me was how appreciative and thankful they all were. The seemed genially floored at the amount of appreciation and love we were giving them. I kept hearing Bono saying “Wow” quietly to himself throughout the night, you could tell he was just as amazed as we were.
I desperately want to meet up with my new friends in New Brunswick on July 30th for the last show on the 360 Tour, they are all going to be there and I would love to be a part of it all over again, I know it is going to be awhile until the next new tour but whatever happens you know I will be there. I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
